Flipped Classroom: KITCHEN

Keeping Art Integration in the centre stage, the teacher tried a different approach to learning, of course with the guidance of the new mentor for the kids, their mother.
By performing and experiencing the process they got to know and understand that cooking is all about the things you can’t write down in a recipe. Taking care of cleanliness, keeping a double check of measurements were some observational skills that got installed in them. While there was a scope for the kids to show their creativity and present in an artistic way… It was an open-ended learning experience which taught them to always be open for modifications if required.
They deduced the fact that we may make mistakes––
‘whatever we cook or bake, no matter what it is, we do it with pride and love, as their mothers do’

Modelling : The Phases of Water

In this hands-on activity, students explored different states of water. The activity was used to introduce and reinforce the ideas of the three different states of water and the transitions between these states. The activities also helped students further to understand that temperature is what affects the transition of states.
Matter can appear quite different depending on which state it is in. When water is in its solid state, it is hard ice with a definite shape. When it becomes liquid water, it takes on the shape of its container. When it becomes gas, it fills the space evenly.
The activity enhanced their critical thinking, observation and creativity skills.

Budding Artists of KG2

To inculcate imagination and creativity in children, they are taken to a new world of opportunities through origami, and the Art and Craft activity period. The goal of these hands-on experiences was to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. This activity focuses on developing fine muscle skills, gripping, motor skills, concentration & eye and hand coordination in these tiny tots.
Incredible Attitude, Performance and Involvement by Children!!

List and Learn the Concept of HCF: Tricky and a Clever Method

The listing method is a brilliant method in terms of underlying conceptual understanding – students can see exactly what they’re trying to achieve here. The greatest number which divides each of the two or more numbers is called HCF or Highest Common Factor.
During the activity the students need to list all the factors of the two numbers and find the biggest number that’s in both lists – that’s your HCF. Simple!
The aim of the activity was to encourage learners to reflect on their subject knowledge and the effectiveness of their explanations.

Role Reversal : Learners became Teachers

Let us see how our tiny tots teach……
The topic was Comparing two-digit values. The students have explained in the class <,> and = by using their hand made flash cards displaying these symbols with a few examples. Competency based education lets the students master critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration at the same time in the given set up. Hands-on experience gave an additional confidence to these kids which was historic.

Electronic learning solutions: E-learning

“If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don’t bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.” With the above view the educator opened the door for grasping new dimensions of computer application and took pride in teaching technology with technology.

Pragmatic Approach to master Social Sciences

To Broaden the scope of learning the subject, the execution was done in a different way. Students took the hands-on learning experience by hand drawing a map of India, locating all the states and Union Territories along with the mention of formation date of state, capital, languages, dress code, song play etc. Conducting a Role play activity where children act as a Member of the constitution assembly introducing the name ,birth year and place, work and other related ministries etc. The Human Development Index(HDI) was explained by students via paper slides. The Skills emphasized were ability to explain context, observation with curiosity, focusing on changing the mindset, enhancing the knowledge and improving the skills.

Scrutinizing Indian and International System of Numerals

“Arithmetic is where numbers fly like pigeons in and out of your head.”

While teaching the differences between the Indian number system and International number system, the teacher was using flash cards to make the concept easy and fun to understand as there is the difference of placement of the separators or comas. In the international numbering system, millions are written after thousands while in Indian system, lakhs are written after thousands. Indian system is followed in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is still called as Indian number system owing to its Union (Indian sub-continent) during the British rule. Million and Billion are international units of the number system. This system is commonly used in western countries. Critical Analysis of the concept was given smartly.

Constructivist Pedagogy

With the spotlight view Teach less but teach the best , today the children of class III got acquainted with the Parts of a Computer. Where they learned that a computer consists of four major parts: the input, output, CPU (central processing unit), and memory. Input consists of anything you will add into the computer (microphone, keyboard, mouse, scanner), and output is how the computer gives back to you (think screen, speakers, etc.). Here in the Academy the kids are taught something new along with being creative each day.
