Christmas is a public holiday in all the countries and is celebrated by non-Christians too as it is a festival that integrates people of all cultures. The central theme of Christmas celebrations is to have a spirit of sharing, kindness, and empathy towards one another.

Farmer’s Day or National Farmer’s Day or KisanDiwas is celebrated every year on the 23rd of December nationwide with great enthusiasm to praise the farmers as they are the spine of India. The day also embarks the birth anniversary of Indian Farmer’s leader and the former Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Kisan Leader, was the fifth Prime Minister of India who served the country for a very short period from July 28, 1979, to January 14, 1980. Although he was a very simple-minded man, he introduced many policies to improve the Indian Farmer’s life. He followed the famous slogan – “JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN” which was given for the farmers by LalBahadurShastri, the second Prime Minister of India.

In India, Mathematics Day is celebrated annually on the 22nd of December to commemorate the birth anniversary of SrinivasaRamanujan, the famous mathematician of India. He gained tremendous popularity for his extraordinary contributions in different fields and branches of Mathematics. The National Mathematics Day was announced on the 26th of February in 2012 and 2012 was declared as the National Mathematics Year by the Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. It was to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the autodidact of Mathematics, SrinivasaRamanujan. The day emphasizes the necessity to carry out the legacy of the world-famous mathematicians forward. The Mathematics day is celebrated to promote and cultivate the magnificent tradition of Indian Mathematics.

Celebrating the 1971 war victory when Pakistan surrendered to India

Vijay Diwas was observed on 16 December 2013 across the Nation to celebrate the India’s military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.

Vijay Diwas commemorates the victory of the Indian Armed Forces and the MuktiBahini in the Indo-Pak war which culminated in the liberation of Bangladesh, then East Pakistan, on 16 December 1971 and the historic surrender of over 93000 Pakistani soldiers.

Therefore, it is necessary that we pay special attention to energy conservation or develop other resources for its replacement because if we are not successful in our efforts during the time, then entire human civilization can be in danger.National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on 14th December in India. In India Energy Conservation Act was implemented by Energy Efficiency Bureau in 2001. Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) is a constitutional body which works under Government of India and helps in the development of policies and strategies to reduce use of energy. The objective of Energy Conservation Act in India is to appoint professional, qualified and energetic managers and auditors who have expertise in policy-making, financial management and implementation of energy-related projects.

Mountains are home to 15% of the world´s population and host about half of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. They provide freshwater for everyday life to half of humanity. Their conservation is a key factor for sustainable development and is part of Goal 15 of the SDGs.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 11 December “International Mountain Day”. As of 2003, it has been observed every year to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document that proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

This year’s Human Rights Day theme “Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights”,   relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts.

Indian Armed Forces Flag Day

Since 1949, 7th December is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day throughout the country to honor the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought on our borders to safeguard the country’s honor. There cannot be a nobler cause than laying down ones life for the country. At the same time, our admiration for the martyrs should not mean that we have little time for the living heroes who were wounded while doing their duty towards their motherland or their widows and children whom they left behind to fend for themselves.

In post-independent India, there was a need for the welfare of its defense personnel. Thus, on August 28, 1949, a committee was set up, which decided to observe a Flag Day annually. It was decided that December 7 will be considered as Armed forces Flag Day throughout the country. This initiative was undertaken by Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the then Prime Minister of the country.

Navy Day is observed in many countries on different dates to recognize the efforts made by their Navy. Indian Navy Day is observed on December 4. The day is celebrated across the country in remembrance of the Operation Trident, which was launched by the Indian Navy during the war with Pakistan in 1971. Indian Navy used the Anti-Ship Missile (AshM) for the first time to attack the Pakistan Naval Headquarters in Karachi. To commemorate the efforts of the Indian Navy, the Indian Government has decided to celebrate 4 December as Navy Day .
