14 June 2021 –
‘Life is in blood, donate blood – give life”
By donating blood, you are not only saving someone else’s life but also keeping your health right. There have been many pieces of research that have revealed that by donating blood, you remain physically and mentally healthy. That is why World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on 14 June on the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered various blood groups, so that people get aware of donating blood. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, despite limited mobility and other challenges, blood donors in many countries have continued to donate blood and plasma to patients who need transfusion. This extraordinary effort during a time of unprecedented crisis highlights the crucial role of well-organized, committed volunteers, non-remunerated blood donors in ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply during normal and emergency times. This day is also used to thank donors for their service and determination to save lives and make the world a better place.
