Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas

Martyrs Day is observed on January 30 annually to mourn the assassination of the Father of our Nation- Mahatma Gandhi. India is among fifteen countries in the world that commemorates Martyrs Day annually to pay homage to the freedom fighters.On this day, the Nation salutes all the freedom fighters for their sacrifice during the Indian Freedom Movement.The President of India, along with the Prime Minister and Defence Minister of India, gather at the Rajghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. They pay homage and tribute through a garland of flowers to the statue of Gandhiji. The country also witnesses and recites several bhajans, religious prayers. Many schools conduct programs and events on this day in which students partake and display patriotic songs and plays.
